Key components of an idea

Idea overview

Use ideas to capture the key improvement concept. This is before any implementation has started and only needs to describe the main features of the potential improvement including title, description, value/ease and idea tags.

Ideas stay within your own private space but can also be shared with others at any time and also be opened up to general comments and votes by others if you want. Similarly, you can also provide feedback on any ideas that have been shared by other users either by adding comments or up voting/down voting the idea.

Image and documents can be attached to the idea to provide further useful information when reviewing the idea e.g., images of the workplace equipment or work location or whiteboard notes.

Ideas remain as ideas until you decide you want to implement at which point you can easily generate an initiative by choosing a change org (either a work org or a program/workstream) and a workflow. The initiative is then created and is visible to everyone with access to the selected change org. The initiative automatically carries over all images, documents and comments from the idea.

Listed ideas can be filtered and sorted based on multiple properties including title, description and idea tags so that you can easily find your ideas.

Actioning ideas

Whilst ideas are usually an initial concept of a potential improvement and need minimal information, initiatives have significantly more information including an implementation plan, stage gates and quantified impacts.

As an idea owner, you can choose to action the idea in two ways:

1. Simply action/implement the idea and change the idea status to ‘actioned’ – this is perfect for ‘just do it’ type ideas that require no planning or resources
2. Generate an initiative from the idea by simply selecting the ‘Create new initiative’ button. The pop-up dialog requires workflow and change org information:
– **Workflow:** Choose which workflow will be used for stage gating the initiative
– **Change org:** Choose if the initiative will be actioned within a work org (for Continuous Improvement) or a change program/workstream (for a transformation)

Once created, the new initiative will carry over all the original idea information including descriptions, comments and images/files (if any).

Further initiatives can created from the idea at any time which can be useful if the initiative is being duplicated in multiple areas/lines.
